Guida alla Val di Fassa

Campitello di Fassa/Ciampedel

People and culture

About 1 million people visit the natural beauty of the Fassa valley each year, but only 10,000 live there permanently.

These are the people of Fassa: the descendants of ancient populations born from the meeting of Romans and Alpine Folk about 2,000 years ago. For generations, the cycle of life has been marked by the rhythms of nature, but in the last 60 years there has been a big change. The advent of tourism has indeed radically transformed the economic structure and behaviour of the valley. Today the Fassa community is able to offer employment to 87% of the working age population and it has the highest percentage of young people in the whole Trentino area!

Immersed in the contemporary multiculturalism, the "Jent da mont" (mountain people) have been able to deliver a still healthy environment to future generations and have managed to maintain their originality and values. The feeling of identity and linguistic consciousness - established and cultivated by numerous associations and cultural institutions - corresponds to a growing awareness of being the custodians of a natural heritage of universal value.

Today, in the Fassa valley, preserving the nature means preserving culture.
